Wishing you a very merry Christmas! Plus, a true story

Amsterdam

What does a merry Christmas mean to you?

Will you be traveling? Observing long-held traditions or creating new ones? Will there be a mad dashing of children with camera phones firing or a softer, quieter celebration?

True story of a different kind of a merry Christmas

Last year, Christmas Day started off quietly, with four of us merrily doing different tasks to prepare for family members who would arrive at all different times — but with a definite, do-not-be-late mealtime. Yes, there were very active children to add to the merriment.

The dinner hour arrived and, with that, plates were filled and so were tummies. We turned to gift opening when, all of a sudden, an extremely unwelcome guest showed up. The flu! I was one of the first afflicted, and not long after, others came down with an awful flu bug.

Truthfully, I was out of it for three days. My daughter thought I was in a coma and called my doctor. The worst part was losing those three days that were supposed to be having fun with my daughter.

So, you never know what you’re going to get for Christmas but I never ever want a repeat of Christmas 2022!

Quick question: Why do we sometimes still get the flu when we’ve gotten a flu shot?

Yeah, yeah, it’s because there’s too many different strains. I get that but it still stinks to be proactive with a preventative action and be the recipient of what we were attempting to avoid.
